Financial Support
Support and incentives for graduates
Graduates working towards a postgraduate certificate in education (PCE) may have their fees paid in full by the government, while many are eligible for a tax-free training bursary of up to £9,000 while they train.
Important Changes to Financial Incentives from 2008
For trainees starting secondary postgraduate English, dance and drama ITT courses after 1 August 2008, the training bursary will be reduced from £9,000 to £6,000. Trainees on these courses will not be eligible to receive a golden hello.
Trainees starting a Science, Maths or Design Technology ITT course will still receive a training bursary of £9,000.
All bursaries willl be paid in 9 monthly instalments from October to June.
Golden Hello
Secondary school teachers of priority subjects in England may qualify for a taxable 'golden hello' of between £2,500 and £5,000 in their second year of teaching. Eligible subjects are design and technology, information and communications technology, and modern languages.
Design Technology Teachers may be eligible for £2,500.
Mathematics and science teachers may be eligible to receive up to £5,000.
For more information regarding Golden Hello's, please see the TDA Website.
In Wales, these payments are called teaching grants and teachers of Welsh are also able to benefit.
Overseas Students
As an Overseas student you will require a Visa to study in the United Kingdom.
The fees for the course will be payable by you and will amount to £6,000, which is payable in 3 instalments of £2,000 in September, January and April. Also you will not be entitled to a bursary.
You must be able to support yourself financially for the whole period of the training. This means that all living and accommodation expenses will have to be paid by you.
Laptops for Trainees
As a trainee with NTTP, you will have loan of a Laptop and a Webcam for the period of your training. Trainees also have access to extra Webcams, Vision Viewers and Data Projectors. These can be borrowed from the NTTP office.
Once you have been offered a place on the course, please follow the Step-by-Step Guide to applying for financial Support (below).
STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE TO APPLYING FOR FINANCIAL SUPPORT
STEP 1
|
You should start thinking about applying for financial help as soon as you have applied for a place on a course. You can check what help you might be entitled to by visiting the on-line calculator at www.direct.gov.uk/student finance.
Do not wait until you have a confirmed place on a course before applying – quote the course that you think you are most likely to attend.
Your application will generally take 6-8 weeks to process. |
| STEP 2 |
You can apply on-line at www.direct.gov.uk/studentfinance. The website will have information about what date the on-line service will be available. You can also apply by contacting your LA (or the SLC). Paper application forms are available from March each year.
|
| STEP 3 |
Fill in your application form.
You can get further information about student loans in the guide ‘Student Loans – A guide to terms and conditions’ which you can download from www.direct.gov.uk/studentfinance. You can also get a copy from your LA (or from the SLC). |
| STEP 4 |
Return your application form.
Make sure you send all the information you are asked for when you return your application.
If you decide to take out a student loan, make sure you provide your National Insurance number. If you do not provide your National Insurance number, or you provide an incorrect one, your loan instalments may not be paid.
To guarantee you get a payment at the start of the first term of your course, make sure you and your family fill in and return your application form by the relevant deadline.
If you miss the deadline, there is no guarantee that you will receive a payment at the start of term. |
Please note:
- NTTP Course fees from September 2009 will be £2,100
- Our HEI code is ABYK
Make sure you state NTTP as your course provider and NOT University of Leicester.
This will delay your Student Loan.
